From the village of Camacha to the peaks of Pico do Arieira the Eastern side of Madeira is a sightseers paradise. On our tours (and in the photos) we have visited breath-taking views – the first image is me with my head in the clouds on top of Pico do Arieira, misty and magical one minute and with far seeing views to Funchal the next. We visited Camacha with its wonderful(?) new church; its basket weavers; and its very famous plaque commemorating the first game of football to be played in Portugal (by someone with a vaguely familiar name – Harry Hinton) organised by an employee of Blandys Vintners.
We travelled to Santana (coincidentally one of my favourite bands) where there are still several of the older Apex style houses of Madeira. From there we travelled along the coast and then to Ribeiro Frio and the Small Village plus a trout farm that can be found there.
